Mmm...Katsu....I mean cutlets...
I completely forgot I hadn't wrote this yet. So anyway, what is Tonkichi about? It basically specialises in Katsu. Not just dons because it's not really a ricebowl, more as in full sets. Granted, I ate a lot of Katsu in Japan but still, I like Katsu...

So I went there on the 1st of Jan, 2014. The place was pretty deserted at the time, probably because it was lunchtime on New Years Day. Surprisingly, there was also a promotion going on that day, where you would get 10% off your final bill. Which basically just means they're going to waive the service charge for me. Yay..... -_-

So I ordered the Katsu set and the sushi. They do have Katsudons but I prefer my Katsu as a full set, which comes with rice, salad and miso soup. The good thing is that the rice and salad is free-flow, so if you finish it, you can always ask for 2nd servings. If you finish it that is. I found the portions to be pretty big and I almost never ask for 2nd servings.

The Katsu is decent. I ordered the one with spicy tuna inside and while it wasn't as delicious as the ones in Japan, it was passable. Only issue I had was that it was slightly on the pricey side, especially if you compare it to Japans. It was close to 30SGD after factoring in the tax and service charge.
The sushi was decent as well. I think part of the issue is that at these prices, the food shouldn't just be decent. It should be slightly above average, even if it's just slightly. However, there is also a lack of decent Katsu places in Singapore, which is probably how they justify their prices.

Overall, decent food. Will probably go back to it when I get a craving for Katsu, however it's not something I would go to frequently. Like Fatboys.
